1 The rainbow takes the form of a multicoloured circular arc. Although humans are part of nature, human activity is often understood as a separate category from other natural phenomena. The study of nature is a large, if not the only, part of science. The sundogs form at 22 from the sun and are more frequent than many of these other natural phenomena. They occur due to the refraction of sunlight through icy clouds. It is formed when a concentrated bright spot is seen on one or both sides of the sun. 'Nature' can refer to the phenomena of the physical world, and also to life in general. A sundog, also known as a mock sun is a natural phenomenon. As always, Pringle’s work will break you open and at the same time fortify you. A rainbow is an optical phenomenon caused by refraction, internal reflection and dispersion of light in water droplets resulting in a continuous spectrum of light appearing in the sky. Nature, in the broadest sense, is the physical world or universe. Particularly striking is Pringle’s ability to powerfully and convincingly evoke a child’s point of view. Seeing something spooky is unnerving in and of itself, but seeing it in the atmosphere overhead is even more so Heres a list of weathers ten most disturbing phenomena, why they freak us out, and the science behind their other-worldly appearance. Pringle’s many gifts as a writer are in full force here. Many of the stories are quintessentially Midwestern, infused with wide cornfields and an ethos of practicality and personal limitation that is brought into stark relief by Pringle’s uncritical presentation. While other celestial bodies of the solar system do experience strange and unusual weather conditions, the Earth has not been left far behind. Often, the lines between reality and delusion blur, and the reader becomes unnervingly ensnared in the protagonist’s confusion. Pringle’s stories deftly and unsentimentally address heartbreaking and sometimes taboo topics like the grief of miscarriage and the destructive force of homophobia. We see adult characters who escaped horrific childhoods question the viability of their own happy lives to the point that everything begins to crumble. In these stories, we see from the eyes of children watching a parent die from cancer, witnessing a parent’s ongoing struggle with mental illness and the debilitating effects of medication, and experiencing a holocaust-like mass killing of residents in their town. 1 517 VOTES Thundersnow Photo: Kaitlin / Flickr / CC-BY-ND 2. Pringle’s characters are inspiring and courageous as they encounter unthinkable catastrophes. In prose rich in metaphor, Pringle masterfully and hauntingly narrates the interior lives of children and adults facing life’s greatest struggles.
